When Jade Kilduff walked onto the Britain’s Got Talent stage with her little brother Christian, the judges had no idea how much meaning was behind the performance they were about to see.
Jade was 18 at the time.
Christian was still very young.
And before the rest of their group even appeared, Jade shared the story that had brought them there.
Her family had once been told that Christian might never be able to communicate.
Jade refused to accept that communication between them was impossible.
So she began learning to sign with him.
After months of persistence, something extraordinary happened.
Christian signed back.
One Brother and Sister Became Something Much Bigger
For Jade, learning to sign wasn’t simply about teaching Christian a skill.
It gave the siblings another way to understand each other.
As Christian learned more signs, Jade wanted other people to learn too, so children like her brother would have more people they could communicate with.
She and Christian began sharing signing videos online.
The positive response encouraged them to start classes in their local community.
Those classes eventually grew into Sign Along With Us, an inclusive choir bringing together children and adults.
And in 2020, that group walked onto one of Britain’s biggest stages.
Then the Entire Choir Appeared
After hearing Jade and Christian’s introduction, the judges were already interested.
But then the stage filled with members of Sign Along With Us.
The group included both children and adults, with ages ranging from 4 to 58 at the audition. Reports described the choir as 37 children and 28 adults.
They weren’t going to perform an ordinary choir number.
They combined singing and signing.
And their song choice couldn’t have been more appropriate:
“This Is Me” from The Greatest Showman.
The song’s message of accepting who you are perfectly matched what the group represented.
Then the music began.
The Judges Started Getting Emotional
As the choir sang, members also signed along with the lyrics.
The performance was bright, energetic and full of personality.
But it was also deeply emotional.
Amanda Holden and Alesha Dixon were visibly moved, with reports from the audition describing both judges in tears.
The group wasn’t simply demonstrating a talent.
They were showing what could happen when people were given a way to participate rather than being left out.
And the judges understood that message immediately.
Simon Cowell praised what the group represented, while Amanda described the performance as extremely moving.

The Golden Buzzer wasn’t the end of their story.
Sign Along With Us returned for the BGT semi-finals, where the group again combined singing and signing. Because of COVID-era restrictions, some members appeared remotely while others performed onstage.
They advanced all the way to the Britain’s Got Talent 2020 final.
And after the public vote, Sign Along With Us finished as the runner-up of the entire season.
That result made their first audition even more remarkable.
A project created to help one little boy communicate had grown into a group watched by millions.

More Than Just a Talent-Show Performance
There are BGT auditions remembered because someone hits an enormous note or performs an unbelievable trick.
Sign Along With Us created a different kind of moment.

Jade started with one goal: helping her little brother find another way to express himself.
That eventually connected dozens of people.
