Walking onto the America’s Got Talent stage with a famous cover song is already difficult.
Walking out with a song nobody has ever heard before is an even bigger risk.
That is exactly what Nyjah Music and Zyah Rhythm decided to do.
The teenage brothers from Oʻahu, Hawaiʻi stepped onto the AGT stage in 2026 and introduced themselves with an original song called “Heartbeat.”
They were young.
They were nervous.
And they were about to let Simon Cowell hear their own music for the very first time.
Music Had Always Been Part of Their Lives
Nyjah and Zyah grew up in a deeply musical family on Oʻahu’s North Shore.
Their mother, Tahiti Hernandez, had performed as a vocalist, while their extended family includes their uncle Bruno Mars.
But the brothers were determined to build their own identity as performers.
They had already spent years singing together, creating music and building an audience online.
Still, appearing on AGT was different.
This was one of the biggest stages they had ever faced.
And instead of choosing a familiar song that might make the audition easier, they decided to sing something of their own.
They Chose “Heartbeat”
Their original song was called “Heartbeat.”
The brothers later explained that the song had been inspired by their grandmother, giving the performance a personal connection beyond simply trying to impress the judges.
Once the music began, the strength of the duo became clear.
Their voices blended naturally.
The harmonies felt smooth.
And there was an easy chemistry between them that only siblings who have sung together for years can really create.
Rather than relying on huge stage production, the audition stayed focused on the two voices and the song.
Simon Started Listening Differently
Simon Cowell is known for being especially demanding when contestants bring original music onto a talent-show stage.
But Nyjah and Zyah’s performance caught his attention.
The official AGT description said the brothers left Simon and the judges convinced that they had something special.
Howie Mandel also responded positively, comparing part of what he heard to the distinctive quality that made former AGT winner Grace VanderWaal memorable.
Sofia Vergara praised the atmosphere the brothers created onstage.
By the time the song ended, the audition had clearly worked.
Four Yes Votes
The judges made their decision.
Four judges. Four yes votes.
Nyjah and Zyah were moving forward.
Their original song had done exactly what an audition song is supposed to do:
It introduced the judges to who they were.
Not as cover singers.
Not as relatives of someone famous.

Their Journey Continued
The brothers later survived the Judges’ Callback round and earned a place in the AGT Season 21 live shows.
During the Quarterfinals, they returned with a new arrangement of “I Swear” by All-4-One. That later performance received much more mixed feedback from the panel, showing just how difficult the competition became once the live rounds began.
But their original audition remains the clearest introduction to what made people notice them in the first place.
Two brothers.

For Nyjah and Zyah, “Heartbeat” wasn’t simply another audition song.
It was the first chance for millions of viewers to hear music they had created themselves.
